A Message From Team HWF

Our team is taking part in the Rabalais Run for Life 5K benefitting LOPA. All money raised helps LOPA's core purpose, Making Life Happen. Team HWF (Wayne Frazier) is gearing up for our LOPA Run/Walk on Saturday, November 16. Wayne's son will be getting married that day so his immediate family cannot attend the run on that date. However, several friends have expressed that they still want to represent for "Team HWF"! We are running/walking to continue to bring awareness to the need for organ donation and honor OUR HERO WAYNE! Until we were faced with making this very personal decision with Wayne, we had heard of organ donation but really didn't know much about it. I mean, we had the little red heart on our driver's license, but, "What are the chances?" Long ago, Wayne made the decision to be an organ donor and made his wishes clear. Whenever he would remind me about it I would just say, "Okay, fine, I don't want to deal with it or talk about it right now!" Well, the day came that I had to deal with it. On our family's saddest day, Wayne was able to provide the miracles that several families have been praying for. He was able to donate organs, tissues and eyes. We are so very proud of him and were honored to fulfill his wishes. He is truly a hero to people who will never know him. He has always been our hero! We have been so blessed to meet and get to know the recipient of Wayne's liver. Our families are forever joined. Like one of my kids said, "We are kind of like family. We share the same DNA now.". You can read about his transplant journey at Todd's Transplant. Or you can just ask me about it. I love to talk about MY HERO, WAYNE! If you would like to support our efforts to spread the word about organ donation you can make a financial donation to our team page at this link. It doesn't matter your age, please register to be an organ donor at www.lopa.org. "Do your job!" Make Life Happen! Thanks, Shara ////////////// A message from Wayne's liver recipient: HWF - My Donor Angel My name is Todd Schroeder. I live today because of my Donor Angel named Howard Wayne Frazier. Without this incredible human beings decision to be an organ donor, I may not have been alive to-day to be able to write this. Wayne Frazier’s selfless act of marking that box when he renewed his license each year and his discussing his decision with his family gave me a second chance at life. I can never thank Wayne in person, but I can get the word out and “Do my job!” for Wayne. Become an organ donor and give someone else a second chance at vision, recovery from an accident, or life itself. Because of Howard Wayne Frazier, iLIVE.

About LOPA: Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) was established on April 1, 1988 as an independent, not-for-profit organ and tissue recovery agency. LOPA is federally designated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid as the organ procurement organization (OPO) responsible for servicing the state of Louisiana. LOPA is tasked with two main objectives; housing and maintaining the Louisiana Donor Registry, and recovering organs and tissue for transplant. LOPA partners with professionals throughout the state, including eye banks and all hospitals within Louisiana, to accomplish its life saving and enhancing goals. Education is key to this process, and our staff offers a variety of educational opportunities for the public and professionals within our state.
