We, along with the YMCA, are hosting our annual stroke awareness month event on May 2nd 2026 from 9am to 12pm in Shreveport, LA.

This event is free to the public, and has activities for all ages. The event focuses on stroke awareness, symptom identification, and risk factor modification, with glucose and lipid testing, BMI checks, blood pressure checks, and health counseling. We will also have prizes and giveaways, and speakers on a range of topics. Our 2025 initiative, “Ask Me About Stroke!” was a great success, where encouraged community members to become engaged by learning but also teaching BEFAST stroke symptoms. We are looking to grow this initiative again this year, towards our goal of a “Stroke Smart City”.

Our goal is to grow this event every year, so we would LOVE for everyone to join us by manning a table and giving out education on your area of expertise and/or services.

LOPA will have table available with education materials.
For more information please contact Ashley Davis.

This event is open to the public.

About LOPA: Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) was established on April 1, 1988 as an independent, not-for-profit organ and tissue recovery agency. LOPA is federally designated by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid as the organ procurement organization (OPO) responsible for servicing the state of Louisiana. LOPA is tasked with two main objectives; housing and maintaining the Louisiana Donor Registry, and recovering organs and tissue for transplant. LOPA partners with professionals throughout the state, including eye banks and all hospitals within Louisiana, to accomplish its life saving and enhancing goals. Education is key to this process, and our staff offers a variety of educational opportunities for the public and professionals within our state.

LOPA's Core Purpose is MAKING LIFE HAPPEN.
